I just Loved Rocky & Slade

I really enjoyed reading Rocky I found myself absorbed in the storyline from beginning to end.

Rocky Garibaldi is a bear shifter, he works as an enforcer for the Lords of the Were and also as an engineer with one of their companies.

Maggie Hobson grew up with her husband Tony and his best friend Rocky since they were all young. Maggie sadly though had lost touch with Rocky soon after she married Tony but now she is desperate to find him.

Rocky is shocked when he sees a car pull into his drive and realises who it is. Maggie his best friends wife was here in his driveway and about to give birth. When Rocky finds out about Tony sadness fills him but he must stay focused and protect Maggie and her cubs. Maggie never knew Tony was a shifter until it was too late but she knew he was right to send her to Rocky. Tony was a powerful Sharman, he felt how much Maggie loved him but he was also aware of what her and Rocky meant to each other. Now with the cubs in danger and the evil that has been following her almost at Rocky's door the Lords and all the Were will do whatever is necessary to protect Maggie and the cubs and Rocky will be the one in the frontline of danger.

SLADE

I fell in love with both Slade and Kate quite early in this book and the more I read the more I found myself being pulled within the pages turning each one with anticipation of what was to come next..

Slade is highly respected and admired by those around him. Not only does his presence command respect but there is an inner calmness that surrounds him and his magic that makes other shifters sense his true strength.

Kate is a Priestess without a home and after much heartache and trauma her path has led her to the Redstone's who's Matriarch of the clan accepts her with open arms and soon the rest of the clan follows.

Devastation hits the Redstone Clan as their matriarch is killed and the Lords send Slade to hunt the killer. Slade is disgusted by what has happened and when he reaches the Redstone's and feels the evil he knows he will need the Priestesses help. Kate is surprised at how Slade and her magic works together and is more than eager to help. It will take everyone to keep a level head if they are to stop this evil and come home alive.

The character and the storyline in both of these stories are so well written you just breathe in every word as you turn the pages just waiting to see what happen next. I love this series and I am sure you will too.

Yet another lesson

As most everyone agrees, the movie is never as good as the book. The better the book, the more disapointing the movie seems to be. Perhaps this is why it's my opinion that Contact movie is one of the worst adaptations of the book given all the changes made from the book to the movie. Spoilers to come. One of the key changes in the movie is Ellie's relationships - one of the key relationships in the book was her relationship with the preacher and the whole message of the book became acceptance between faith and science and even a bit of merging of the two. The movie radicallized both sides and made it about the battle between the faith and science - the book's point was entirely different. In the book, the clash led to acceptance, while in the movie the clash led to Ellie not being selected as the sole person to go (antoher change from the book, given that a team got to go in the book) and the first device being destroyed by religious extremists. While the destruction of one of the devices was in the book, there was an entirely different reason for it. So, all in all, given the content of the book, which I recommend, the movie was totally disappointing and diparts from the book to the extent rarely seen in recent years.

I did enjoy the insight into normal relationships which can and do cause laughter, pain and suffering. although the family is of Indian origin it has all the traditions associated with that country, even though the central figures were born in the EAST End of London.The writing is so good you almost hear all the accents and nuances and the humor aimed against the rellies is wonderful, and could be part of any family regardless of ethnicity.There is pain and sorrow as there is in real life, and I felt it all. Loved it. Dorothy Maley

A Good Read!

This is one of the few books that actually keeps the reader interested from beginning to end. The main characters - Tania, Sunita, Chila, and their husbands, boyfriends and family members - are very insightful and well written. The scenes in the book are so vividly described in a way I can actually see the narrative happening in my mind. I also like how the author uses originality and suspense to keep the story line going. This is a trait that is so hard to find in many novels these days. The surprises were so shocking, I couldn't put down the book for no long amount of time, fearing that I would miss something! I read this 332-page book in two days, which is record time for me. I also liked this book because the author talks about issues that Indian women don't discuss outside of their communities, such as sexuality, interracial dating, marriage, careers, friendship, family and cultural norms. Though I am not Indian myself, I was able to relate to some of the dilemmas the author brings up. This is a great book to read if one is interested in learning more about Indian culture in the United Kingdom. I loved her last book, Anita and Me, and I look forward to reading publications from her in the future!
