Awesome introduction to the DSGE world

Awesome introduction to the DSGE world. The author -a while back I was lucky enough to be taught Dynamic Macroeconomics by him, therefore I can affirm firsthand he's a terrific teacher- takes pains to explain step by step how to build up this type of models. The book starts by setting up the most basic model and gradually incorporates new features that help reproduce the way the economy works.
For next editions, I'd love to see new chapters, on sticky prices � la Calvo and on an Open Economy model.

Just an ad for Mercedes Benz - that does not work

I have read all Micheli's previous books and they were very informative and all have practical methods you can implement in your own dealings. This one unfortunately (to me) came across as an advertising copywriting job for MB USA. Most of the book is spent with words praising the ideas of the then MB USA boss (who has since left, unknown if it was his decision or a corporate push). I dealt with Mercedes as a vendor for many years during this time frame of the book and, from my personal experience, the employees did not "buy-in" to this philosophy. Just search Mercedes Benz Manhattan (their company owned dealership/flagship) and see the massive number of customer service complaints and how vehement their customers dislike them. This of course is not the book's fault; but in writing this book that all is rosy it becomes disingenuous at best for Micheli. I'd be interested to see if edits are made if/when another edition is released.

Being of Italian decent, I was interested in this story as it detailed the era in which my grandparents immigrated to the US. It is not a page turner and the author's style is less than riveting, but it is history and should hold one interest enough to read to completion.

About the Author
Jon Rogawski received his undergraduate degree (and simultaneously a master's degree in mathematics) at Yale, and a Ph.D. in mathematics from Princeton University, where he studied under Robert Langlands. Prior to joining the Department of Mathematics at UCLA, where he is currently Full Professor, he held teaching positions at Yale and the University of Chicago, and research positions at the Institute for Advanced Study and University of Bonn. Jon's areas of interest are number theory, automorphic forms, and harmonic analysis on semisimple groups. He has published numerous research articles in leading mathematical journals, including a research monograph entitled Automorphic Representations of Unitary Groups in Three Variables (Princeton University Press). He is the recipient of a Sloan Fellowship and an editor of The Pacific Journal of Mathematics. Jon and his wife Julie, a physician in family practice, have four children. They run a busy household and, whenever possible, enjoy family vacations in the mountains of California. Jon is a passionate classical music lover and plays the violin and classical guitar. Colin Adams is the Thomas T. Read Professor of Mathematics at Williams College, where he has taught since 1985. He has produced a number of books that make mathematics more accessible and relatable, including How to Ace Calculus and its sequel, How to Ace the Rest of Calculus; Riot at the Calc Exam and other Mathematically Bent Stories; and Zombies & Calculus. Colin co-wrote and appears in the videos "The Great Pi vs. E Debate" and "Derivative vs. Integral: the Final Smackdown."

Adams received his undergraduate degree from MIT and his Ph.D. from the University of Wisconsin. He had held various grants for research in the area of knot theory and low-dimensional topology and has published numerous research articles. He received the Haimo National Distinguished Teaching Award from the Mathematical Association of America (MAA) in 1998, and the Robert Foster Cherry Teaching Award in 2003. Adams also served as MAA Polya Lecturer (1998-2000), and as Sigma Xi Distinguished Lecturer (2000-2002).

Settlers and Expatriates revisits the communities formed by these hundreds of thousands of Britons, as well as the passages home taken by some, and assesses their development, character, and legacy today. Scholars with established expertise in the history of each region explore the communalities that can be found across British communities in South, East and Southeast Asia, Egypt, and East and Southern Africa, and highlight the particularities that were also distinctive features of each British experience. These overseas Britons were sojourners and settlers; some survived in post-independent states, others were swept out quickly and moved on or back to an often uninterested metropolitan Britain. They have often been caricatured and demonized, but understanding them is important for an understanding of the states in which they lived, whose politics were at times a crucial part of British history and the history of migration and settlement.

About the Author

Robert Bickers is Professor of History, University of Bristol. He joined the University of Bristol in 1997 after receiving a Ph.D. at the School of Oriental and African Studies, and holding post-doctoral fellowships at Nuffield College, Oxford and the University of Cambridge. He is the author of Empire Made Me: An Englishman Adrift in Shanghai (2003), which won the American Historical Association's Morris D. Forkosch prize, and was a founder of Bristol's Centre for the Study of Colonial and Post-Colonial Societies.
