Continues to be an excellent series!

Here we are at book six in the Baine Chronicles and the books are still as fun as always. Sunaya and Iannis must attend the funeral and coronation of another country’s leaders. However, they have been tasked to take down a lab where the resistance is manufacturing a virus to kill shifters in that same country and as the mission isn’t sanctioned, they can’t be caught. Add to that, someone is trying to murder Sunaya and will stop at nothing to succeed. One new aspect of the series I’m really enjoying is Sunaya’s father and his family. As I don’t want to spoil this book, things happen that really make me excited to see what’s going to happen next. I can’t wait to see what kind of hijinks the family dynamics will bring to the series. And, that parrot! I just love the ether parrot who finally gets a name in this book. One thing in this book that disappointed me a tiny bit was that we didn’t get to see Fenris very much, but that is understandable because of what was going on in the book. Which brings me to the next thing in the book which I enjoyed: Garrett. I think we will be seeing a lot more of him, and I think there are great things in store. I have an idea what's up, and I can't wait to find out if I am right. This book has set up some interesting things to come. Confused about the things I've brought up? Read the book now and find out what I mean! If you haven’t started this series, you should immediately: the books are action-packed, fun, well-written, and have great romance, and it’s really, really hard to wait between books. If you are a long-time fan, this book is a great addition to the series. Highly recommend!

Knowing your Enemy

Out of all of the Baine Chronicles book covers "Deceived by Magic" is my one favorite for covers. I love the design and the colors...
now onto my review in my honest opinion..
Deceived by Magic is full of action and some surprises... after you read the first few pages you are pulled into the story of what adventure that Sunaya and Iannis go on. the Minister and his personal entourage is coming to Solontha because the Mage-Emperor of Garai has died. Iannis has been invited to go along as part of the Ministers personal entourage to be part of the celebration guests and the funeral procession... Iannis takes Sunaya, Director Chen as his personal entourage.... There is also an alternative mission as usual...
While there in Garai... Sunaya gets the chance to meet her Father and 2 Siblings and that was a special event in all to its self... You will have to read all about that.. you will love it...
This book as stated up above is full of excitement, adventure and lots of surprises...
There are 2 parts that I really loved...
The first one is when Sunaya gets to change into her Panther form and lets some children play with her and she kisses (licks) a little girl on the cheek...
the second is when Haman (Sunaya's father) acknowledges Sunaya as his daughter in front of Lord Iannis and gives permission for for them to marry... this part brought tears to my eyes...
but if you want to know what kind of adventure that Iannis, Sunaya, and Director Chen had... you need to read the book... it's fun and very exciting..

Good subplot

I've read this entire series so far and have enjoyed Sunaya's journey as she goes from a shifter-mage hiding her magic to the fiance and apprentice of the most powerful man in her territory. A lot's changed for her, many good things that she'll never take advantage of. She's a great character to follow and I love her attitude. I was excited to read this installment because her father's mentioned, and we'd finally get to see one of the major mysteries in her life.

Sadly, I was a little bummed. Like two other installments I could think of, this book wasn't as exciting for me. Yes, they go on another mission that deals with the bad guys, but it's crumbs in comparison to the evil that I witnessed in the past. I'm getting restless with the subplots and hope the next one will concentrate more on life-altering things. Like the rebels hitting closer to home, or Sunaya having to work her ass for the greater good. Or Iannis, whichever comes first lol. You can never get enough Iannis.

Musical criticism at the highest level

Sir Donald Tovey is widely recognized as the leading music critic of the early 20th century writing in English. These essays are all interesting, often provoking, but it is essential that you can read music as there are many notated examples. I have given this collection only 4 stars because these essays are all old (Tovey died in 1940) and many of his conclusions may be superseded by later research; nevertheless, they're all worthwhile if only as a representation of the best musical scholarship of the time.

Sherwood wolves

This book is well suited for young adults. The characters were like-able. The story set up is interesting and well done. I could easily picture the town, homes and people as I was reading. That said there is not really a plot to this book. When things finally start to happen it's the end of the book. I guess it's supposed to be a cliffhanger, but really, it just feels like the story was cut off so it could be two or three novels instead of the one novel it probably should be. I will check out book two but if the story moves along like this and is then cut off that's it for me.

The writing was good and I liked where the story was going, but the story never got there. Even when the book ended it felt like she just decided she didn't feel like writing anymore. I'm very disappointed, I even read the sample thinking this book will be great and it wasn't. It f let like we just got to the turning point of the book when it ended. And what is with the emphasis of the shovel??? There was too much focus and attention on the underdeveloped shovel story that the actual story never developed either. Book has a lot of promise, but didn't deliver on it.

What I liked:
-Romance. I liked the relationship between Camryn and Jax. It seemed to progress and develop at a natural pace, without feeling too rushed or too serious too fast. I liked that there were no dramatic declarations of love between them after only days of knowing one another. It seems rare these days to find books that don't dive right into love.
-Writing. The writing was good enough to keep me interested in the story, though it could have used more description to flesh out some of the scenes. Everything happens so fast and no time is really taken to set the scenery.

What I disliked:
-Plot. It felt like nothing really happened for the majority of the book. Things only really start happening in the last two or three chapters, and even then, it's not very exciting or satisfying. The majority of the book is spent on boring day to day activities, while the more exciting aspects are overlooked in favor of Jax and Camryn's relationship. There needs to be a balance between plot progression as well as relationship growth.
-Length. This wasn't even really a book. It was more of a novella in length. 56,000 words, which equals roughly 220 pages. That's not a full-length book. I've been pretty disappointed in the length of these books. They could easily be condensed into one bigger book, but instead are released as shorter ones in rapid succession, and we're being charged full price for a book that's not full length.

Overall, it was a decent book that entertained me for a short afternoon, but there was nothing spectacular about it. If you're a die-hard werewolf fan, give it a chance and you might find you like it. If you choose to pass on it, you're not missing much. I love these writers and think they have some amazing ideas, but I'm not sure this series is worth reading. 2.0
