About the Author
Wayne Weiten is a graduate of Bradley University and received his Ph.D. in social psychology from the University of Illinois, Chicago in 1981. He has taught at the College of DuPage and Santa Clara University, and currently teaches at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. He has received distinguished teaching awards from Division Two of the American Psychological Association (APA) and from the College of DuPage. He is a Fellow of Divisions 1, 2, and 8 of the American Psychological Association and a Fellow of the Midwestern Psychological Association. In 1991, he helped chair the APA National Conference on Enhancing the Quality of Undergraduate Education in Psychology. He is a former President of the Society for the Teaching of Psychology and the Rocky Mountain Psychological Association. In 2006, one of the five national teaching awards given annually by the Society for the Teaching of Psychology was named in his honor. Weiten has conducted research on a wide range of topics, including educational measurement, jury decision-making, attribution theory, pressure as a form of stress, and the technology of textbooks. He is also the author of PSYCHOLOGY: THEMES & VARIATIONS (Cengage, 2017, 10th Edition). Weiten created an educational CD-ROM titled PSYKTREK: A MULTIMEDIA INTRODUCTION TO PSYCHOLOGY and co-authored a chapter on the Introductory Psychology course for THE OXFORD HANDBOOK OF UNDERGRADUATE PSYCHOLOGY EDUCATION (Weiten & Houska, 2015).

GREAT book for an introductory class!

The material is very well presented and flows from chapter to chapter. Examples from life and previous studies are abundant and help convey the material. Checkpoints along the chapter review the concepts learned in the section. Very good use of images/graphs/data and they are usually properly explained either in the text or the caption. A few great tools for studing includes an end of the chapter multiple choice test and chapter summaries in two forms (web layout and summary of main theme of the chapter graphically).
MOST IMPORTANTLY, SAME CONTENT AS THE 9TH EDITION!! With the DSM-V out now, I believe that what the professor will cover in and intro class would be sufficient. The eating disorders and mood disorders are reclassified but they still exist. Easy stuff that should be in the lecture or at least Google-able.
Pro tip: Don't buy a used book and expect an access code. Just...no.

Textbook rental with slash in cover

The book is well written, clear and effective. The price, for a rented, used textbook, was very reasonable. The book was in excellent condition except for one thing - a 5 inch slash in the cover that looks like it was done with razor blade or Xacto knife. Hopefully, Amazon does not charge us for this.

Solid Content, Ultra-thin Pages w/o Cover

My professor required this specific version for some reason. It arrived wrapped securely in shrink wrap, but there was no true cover (like with other paperbacks), and the loose-leaf pages are super flimsy (like old newsprint). After it arrived, I ordered a sturdy three-ring binder to go with it, which took care of my first concern, that of keeping the pages intact.
After the term was over, it's likely you'll be unable to resell this volume.
