This program is designed primarily for those contemplating marriage, engaged to be married, or newly married. Through an interactive video led by Drs. Les and Leslie Parrott, along with related reading, shared discussion, and participative exercises, couples will master certain life skills that will improve their relationship and help them develop a strong foundation for a marriage that will last a lifetime.
This series is divided into eight sessions. Each session is designed to use approximately 15 minutes of video content (presented by Drs. Les and Leslie Parrott) and approximately 30 minutes of discussion. The video material will serve as a catalyst for discussion and motivation for each couple to do the reading and exercises pertaining to that session’s topic.
Depending on your particular setting you can lengthen or shorten each session to accommodate your specific situation. This program lends itself to a variety of settings and approaches: classroom, weekend retreat, seminar/event, or one-on-one counseling. Choose whichever option and exercises best suit your needs. This is a typical weekly approach to the material: Sunday mornings, Sunday evenings, or an eight-week, pre-marriage preparation course for couples.
Possible weekly schedule:
45 minutes total class time (material is provided if you choose to have longer class sessions)
5 minutes for getting everyone prepared
10 minutes of pre-video discussion/exercises
15 minutes of video
15 minutes of discussion/exercises Weekend Retreat
With this approach you will need to plan your schedule based on how much time you have together and how you can cover the eight video sessions. We suggest eliminating many of the "After the Video" exercises and simply allowing couples to go off and do one of the exercises discussed in that particular session. There is enough material to keep you busy—allow time for processing and relaxation!
Since the books are such an important aspect of this program we suggest including the costs of these with the registration fee and giving each couple the necessary resources when they arrive at the retreat.

Helpful in leading a couple or group through the curriculum

This is a pretty helpful guide if you're leading one couple or a group of couples through the Saving Your Marriage curriculum. I wouldn't consider it a necessity though. A lot of it is fluff that we didn't end up following. But it's good to have as a framework for your time reviewing each chapter.
